Uzbek language: Compound Nouns / Usbekische Sprache: Zusammengesetzte Substantive

Forming compound nouns in Uzbek is very easy. At the end of the word that refers to another, an -i is added. If the word ends in a vowel, you add -si.

Examples:

the Uzbek language/Uzbek = o'zbek tili

til (language, also tongue) refers to o'zbek (Uzbek)

city center = shahar markazi

markaz (center) refers to shahar (city)

national dishes = milliy ovqatlari

ovqatlar (dishes) refers to milliy (national)

Exampe sentence:

Toshkent shahri O'zbekistonning poytaxti. = The city of Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan.

Shanba kuni vaqting(iz)* bormi? = Do you have time on Saturday?

Avgust oyida kelamiz. = We will come in the month of August.

*"vaqting" is informal and "vaqtingiz" is formal

Zusammengesetzte Substantive

Das Bilden von zusammengesetzten Substantiven ist in Usbekischen sehr einfach. Am Ende des Wortes, welches sich auf ein anderes bezieht, wird ein -i angehängt. Falls das Wort auf einen Vokal endet, hängt man -si an.

Beispiele:

die usbekische Sprache/Usbekisch = o'zbek tili

til (Sprache, auch Zunge) bezieht sich auf o'zbek (usbekisch)

Stadtzentrum = shahar markazi

markaz (Zentrum) bezieht sich auf shahar (Stadt)

Nationalgerichte = milliy ovqatlari

ovqatlar (Gerichte) bezieht sich auf milliy (national)

*"vaqting" ist informell und "vaqtingiz" ist formell/Höflichkeitsfrom
